I'm not sure about this, I'm thinking it would be better if we keep the trade restrictions on the USSR and NATO, not just to act as a handicap for the super powers, but to ensure that there is antagonism between the two powers, this is after all a cold war scenario.
There are other advantages to having client states, the most prominent being the ability to station troops in them.

Maybe we could change the house rules to allow nations to station unlimited troops in client states, this would make them much more valuable.

I'm willing to put it to a vote that John and I cannot partake in. It does go against the house rules, so this is only fair. I'll wait until I hear what's going on to play my turn.

It comes down to this question: Did you sign up for a scripted scenario, or not? (There's nothing wrong with either answer).

If everybody else wants to remove the restrictions on the USSR and NATO then I guess we can try it out.

Well, that's the thing, Ingvar... There is no guarantee that this will last. I assume your post means "ok" so I will withdraw from Germany...

The treaty makes a lot of sense to me considering:

    1. The primary reason for Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe was to prevent a third invasion of Russia in one century;
    2. Europe is the most likely continent to be wiped from the map (in a civ2 game) during a nuclear confrontation. John and I were just wasting our units there. They were already dead within a turn of any open war (or, point "1" is obsolete);
    3. John gets to roleplay Carter's fantasy; and
    4. I get to roleplay a Soviet Union that actually takes socialism seriously (it takes a lot of money to work!)

I like it! This deal could work to give the Soviet union a chance I´m not sure it would have otherwise.

The Soviet Union begins their peaceful withdrawal from Germany. Forces should be completely moved within two months (one more turn), two months ahead of schedule. The Soviet Union intends to make good of Japan's trade ports as soon as the last troop leaves.

(By the way, how do you "get" the cities? Do you just enter them or do I need to do something?)

In celebration of this event, and as a demonstration of protection for their now freed merchants, the Soviet Fleet steams out of Murmansk for a world peace tour.

VP this turn: Cleaned one pollution, had one pollution, and established one trade (net = +.5).

The People of China welcome this new wind of change in global diplomacy, but we must urge the two super powers that there is a world beyond Europe.
It is our belief that to have a true change in geopolitics there needs to be reform within the UN security council which three European countries currently hold a permanent seat.
It is time for Great Britain and France to hand over their seats to the growing nations of Brazil and India.

Furthermore, the unification movements in both India and Germany has inspired the Chinese people to move ahead in uniting with their brothers in Taiwan by the end of the year and Hong Kong as soon as the reformed UNSC grants a mandate to end the British occupation of Hong Kong.

    Divided no more.

By the way, use the civcity utility program when it comes to city transfers.

The US supports the immediate re-unification of Taiwan and the PRC at the PRC's earliest convenience.

However, the issue of Hong Kong is a bit more complicated. We will of course be able to come to an agreement which hands it over earlier than planned, but due to logistics issues it may take some time. We would rather take this to private communication channels.

    As for the turn:

    -3 pollution
    +2 tech
    +0.5 trade
    +1 clean-up

    +0.5 overall

    Post Brazil July 1975

The election results are in and the Brazilian Socialist Party comes in just ahead of the National Renewal Alliance Party, not as far ahead as some commentators had been predicting. There are some complaints about vote fixing but most of these seem to have been in favour of the Military Junta anyway.

Now comes the tricky transition of power. Will the Military men go quietly? The victorious PSB asks for the backing of the UN in upholding the election results.

    India reunified!
Can this new hard-line stance the Congress party has adopted lead to anything good?

Two AEGIS Cruisers lost attacking karachi.
    One T-55 lost attacking Karachi.

One unit of Heavy Troopers lost attacking Islamabad.

    One Cruiser lost attacking Dhaka.
One Light Trooper lost attacking Dhaka.
    One T-55 lost attacking Dhaka.

OOC: I used Darios PBEM fixer to set myself at war with Pro-Westerners and Neutrals(Barbarians).
(first i had to change the savegame from .hot to .net.)
When I attacked Pro-Westerners their alliance with Nato and Brazil triggered and war was declared between India and those two.

When I ended the turn I set myself to peace with all the relevant parties.
Assuming the cities captured are counted as won through Proxy war as per the rules, and won using conventional weapons in addition, I should get 9 points, unless I misread the rules?

It could be that the extra point for capturing a human city with conventional weapons might refer to a directly controlled human player city, rather than the puppet cities.

    I'm not too sure though.

In world news, U.S. supported guerrillas go on the offensive in Nicaragua.

Germany has finally been reunified, and Soviet merchants arrive in Japan to celebrate this event.
