Imperialism 1870v2 classic PBEM

Hi guys.

Barthi's new version notwithstanding, I'd like to play the original version of this great scenario.

Here are the players:

Russia - Cobra
Japan - Civilonaut
France - JPetroski
Germany - cupcoffee
USA - Karlheinz
Britain - John
Independent - AI

The rules:

No reloading.
No cheating in general.
No airstacks.
No shipchaining.
Only destroyed cities may be rebuilt, no building of new cities.
No tech exchange? Not sure, we should talk about it.

You can suggest rules if I missed any.

Also, I'd like this to be a fast PBEM. We should keep a rule of a maximum of 2 days/turn, unless an acceptable time is needed for something special. If a person is gone for too long, he should find a replacement.

I will have to decline this one. Though I do love the scenario it has proved to be rather unbalanced for PBEM games. I'm going to wait for Barthi's new version. I hope you find another couple of players and prove me wrong though

Hm, interesting. In what way would you consider it unbalanced?

Britain is grossly overpowered.

That kind of comes with the era, doesn't it?

It does not play out very realistically, and unless a broad coalition is formed against Britain it will certainly win.

Sure, its kind of historically accurate, but in the games we have played recently Britain seems invincible and that doesn't make for an entertaining game. With a good player in control Britain can soon wipe the floor with anyone who it pleases, even if all the other Civs stand together.

In reality Britain was powerful but I think it would have lost if it had taken on several of the worlds major powers at the same time. After all Britain, Russia and France had an extremely tough time against Germany in WWI and only managed to win when the USA tipped the scales! If Barthi can just tweak things a bit more than his last mod then he will be onto a winner.

Of course that's just my personal opinion, I may be misguided so please don't let me put you off playing the original

I'll agree with Germany not being powerful enough.

In the end, it comes down to the players though, I'd say. In the last non-Barthi mod Imperialism PBEM which I checked out, Russia managed to invade and conquer the British isles, so I think Britain isn't all that invulnerable after all. It also heavily depends on diplomacy.

But yeah, in this scenario, it's not so much that Britain is overpowered rather than Germany being drastically underpowered.

New proposal:

By the way guys, I also really like the classic (I guess I'm a sucker for classic scenarios ) La Belle Epoque take on this era.

I think that, considering the very valid concerns McMonkey and Ingvar have brought forward, it appears more balanced than classic Imperialism by making Germany, France, Japan and Russia more powerful in comparison, giving them more cities and better units.

I have attached the scenario to this post, take a look and tell me if you'd like to play that one instead.

If you do, I'd keep the current nations and players as they are, unless you want to swap.

I agree that Britain is too powerful, if it can trade. Without trade it would be really difficult for them.

I would play belle epoque, too
