The Confederate States - January 1862
Wishing to avenge the death of General Jackson and discourage Federal sea landings the Confederate Army launches an small scale attack on Norfolk that develops into a major engagement as success follows success. Although the port nominally remains in Federal control the entire garrison has been eradicated.

1 Cannon Battery
1 Transport ship
6 Warships (Various types, all already badly damaged)

Sorry, real life is kind of mad now. I know it takes days for one turn, but things should be sorted out soon. Either today or tomorrow I should play.

Disaster! After a week-long mourning the Union army has sworn to avenge their fallen comrades. A raid upon Norfolk was unexpected and brutal. 20,000 men killed or captured. Few have escaped on small boats into safety and only tiredness of Confederate forces prevented the capture of the city. A quick force was put together in Washington. Lead by General McClellan 8,000 men were lead to quickly attack the bleeding Confederate force.
9,000 volonteers and 1,000 militia were disperced or killed by Union forces. 1 artillery regiment destroyed. The dead have been avenged, but the destruction of the Southern Union Fleet has was a severe blow to the Northern efforts on the Eastern front. Measures are being taken to restore the pre-January 1962 situation. 2,000 men from militia formations were lost during the assault on Norfolk.
Elsewere the Union has destroyed a force of 1,000 Confederate cavalrymen way up North.
The war continues.

The Confederate States - February 1862
Confederate troops walk into Norfolk unopposed. The cost in lives was high for both sides, but the battle is hailed as a great victory by the Southern press. Generals A.S. and J Johnson both escape unscathed from the Federal naval counter attack and return to the Confederate hinterland to regroup. Spurred on by this victory Confederate Volunteers come forward in large numbers and travel to the eastern theatre to help safeguard the Confederacy.
BRITISH RECOGNITION!
After the capture of St. Louis (event trigger) and the counter attack at Norfolk the British decide the Confederate States of America is viable and parliament votes in favour of recognizing the legitimacy of Jefferson Davis' government based in Richmond, Virginia. The British promise financial help as well as military equipment.
