Springfield, the state capital of Illinois and Lincoln's former home, is captured by troops under General Beauregard. 1 Cannon Battery, 3 or possibly 4 Infantry Regiments, 3 Militia Regiments and 1 Cavalry Brigade destroyed or put to flight. 1 Militia Regiment guarding the eastern approaches also forced to surrender. Confederate losses were very light.

Internal news report Northern troops loosing their will to fight. More and more re-grouping and aimless wondering.
Norfolk, abandoned by Confederate troops, is once again taken by Northern troops.

In the hills around Lynchburg and Charlottesville 3 Pennsylvania State Militia units are sent packing, darn yellowbellies. 1 brave Volunteer unit lost.

The Union continues its naval operations on the Eastern shore. Not willing to give up control of portal cities, the Union Navy takes back Norfolk and Williamsburg. 1 Confederate Regiment and 1 militia Regiment is destroyed during naval assaults. Confederate general is rumoured to be amongst those killed. He was given a state funeral.
In other news a Warship has been constructed in Philadelphia shipyards. The idiot governor has been discharged the same day the ship were to set sail. He was sent into exhile to Europe and the town is trying to make up for the time lost by producing something useful. No more news from the North.

The Confederate offensive into Illinois grinds on. Peoria falls after a brief skirmish. Two terrified state militia units are forced to surrender. The Confederacy has begun to conscription to boost the number of men at arms.
