    How does one check a stack size? And what is black clicking?

    Diplomacy is conducted...how, exactly? PMs and then gifting the agreed trade items in-game?

    crap... it happened in other italian cities. i checked croton, reghion, thurii and poseidonia.
    just start the scenario in SP mode, reveal the map and start deleting the barbarian units inside one of the cities mentioned above, one by one. after you had deleted the 4/5 barbarian defending units, a new one would appear... a macedonian unit.

    McMonkey intentionally did that. When making a scenario, you can put in "invisible" units of any civ in another civ's city...that will pop up after the owner civ's units in that city are destroyed. My guess is that these particular pop-up units you found are supposed to force you to make war with the Macedonians to conquer more of Italy...one more little trick McMonkey played on us.

    You can always negotiate with Macedonia on the side, agreeing to be at war, but not attacking each other beyond eliminating the pop-up units.

    To check a stack size you place the cursor over the enemy army and then reduce the bottom right panel until the unit dissapears and you will see the enemy army size in brackets. Once you have seen what size the stack is just return the panel to its normal size.

    This is allowed because it is assumed a generals scouts could roughly estimate the size of an enemy army, even if they could not tell its exact makeup.

    Black clicking is done by double clicking squares that are out of your sight to check if there are enemy units there. If there are no units you will get the Terrain description screen pop up. If there are enemy units located in the square then no Terrain description will show up!

    Some people think this is a fair tactic, other think it is cheating. To make things nice and clear I have forbidden it in the house rules.

    Diplomacy is conducted by PM and using Yaroslav's Civ Diplomacy tool (attached). With this excellent utility you can swap money, techs (forbidded in this game), cities, units, maps etc... I will explain how to use it when you need to use it (too late to go into it tonight). Just stick the file in your scenario folder ready for when you need to use it

    For f**k sake man. Why don't you read the READ ME file before starting!?!

    Here is the very beginning of that important document:

    "=============AETERNA CIVITAS II READ ME=============

    =============DESCRIPTION=============

    The scenario starts in 281 B.C. at the time of the Pyrrhic Invasion, prior to the Punic Wars. Each turn is one year.

    =============CONCEPTS=============

    *Hidden Units
    -------------
    At the start of the game Rome and Macedon have several units hidden in barbarian cities. I have added these units to add tension between the nations without using up event space. For example, the Romans have a Hastati unit hidden in Suguntum. If the Carthaginians destroy all the barbarian units in that city they will need to kill the Roman unit to capture it. At this point diplomacy comes into play. Either the Roman player can relinquish his claim and leave the city on his following turn or the Carthaginians can kill the Roman unit, therefore starting a war with the Romans."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The same thing applies with the cities of southern Italy, or Magna Graecia as it was known in those days. At the start of the scenario in 281 B.C. Rome is at war with the city of Tarentum (Taras) who have hired the famous General, King Pyrrhus of Epirus to fight the Romans for them. This is a major period of Republican Roman history!

    Rome can either respect the Macedonians claim to the cities, ask the Macedonians to withdraw the units on their turn and have peace or destroy the units and go to war with Macedonian. This makes the game more historically accurate but leaves things open for the players to change the course of history if they wish to.

    This is repeated on the Scenario League page too so there is no excuse for not seeing it! I would suggest some diplomacy with the Macedonians or to prepare yourself for war!

    I bet your the kind of person who puts flatpack furniature together without looking at the instructions and ends up with loads of spare bits at the end...an then the furniature falls apart...and falls on your pet cat...and kills it!

    I would deffinately try some diplomacy. Mind you, Macedonia may not want to let Rome occupy the Hellenic cities of Magna Graecia!
