The request of the so-called "Confederate" goverment is denied. Following the blockade of the Fort Sumter by the illegal Confederate militia, "Star of the West" embarks on an expedition to deliver food and supplies to the besiedged fort.
In the US President Lincoln talkes office on the 4th of March.
He appealed to Southerners in his inaguration speech:
The government will not assail you. You can have no conflict, without being yourselves the aggressors. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to "preserve, protect, and defend it".
I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

That speech was so beautiful I nearly changed my mind and went down the road of peace. However as the only people who are likely to die are imaginary pixelated ones I decided to bombard Fort Sumter right on cue anywayThe Civil War has begun!

The WAR has begun!
Confederate militia spotted near Cairo!
Alexandria restored under Union control! A regiment (?) of Confederate militia either killed or captured!
Unionism discovered!
ROFL. You had me going there for some time
P.S. I had a few questions.
- Did the Union take any losses?
- Can I report anything flaws of the scenario in thread or do I type it up to be sent later?
- Can shore battery be used against land targets? (in your opinion?)
Do not forget to take the Civ 2 PBEM survey!
The only Union loss was Fort Sumter...for nowI will report a full casualty list for both sides each turn.
I would keep a lits of bugs and we can compare notes at the end and forward them to Techumseh.
I would say that shore batteries can be used against any targets that are foolish enough to stray into range of them. (I'm just hoping I haven't been so foolish!)
MARYLAND INVADED
Cumberland falls to the Confederate Army (2 Militia units captured).
VICTORY ON THE MISSISSIPPI
Cairo falls to Confederate troops (1 Cannon and 3 Militia destroyed).

The South attacks Union states! News of the taking of two federal cities have shook the country. People are outraged, many volonteers join the army. In the past two months around 75,000 people have joined the Union forces While the military is talking about offensive and defensive actions, the navy acts. One Confederate frigate was discovered and sunk of the coast of Norfolk.
In other news Confederate forces have been known to be destroying railroads in order to stop Union forces from liberating rebellious cities. Following the fall of Cairo the same tactic has been adopted in the West by Union forces.
P.S. Some nice start McM!I am re-examining some things

Who would have thought that this insignificant little rebellion (*Palpatine smile here*) would last even a few months after its secession? Now the wretched rebels have struck a majour blow to federal plans in the East. Capture of St. Louis, ingenious in its undertaking, has opened the road for the Confederates to control the enire Missisipi river and could provide them with some significant political benefits! The Union has to react and react quickly!
