    AND SO IT BEGINS

It is the turn of the 16th century and the dawn of the Age of Sail. Word has
spread that Christopher Columbus has discovered the West Indies while in the
East, Vasco da Gama has found a sea route to India ending the monopoly of the
Venetian traders. The European nations begin to build huge fleets of ships in
order to colonise new virgin territories.

Game started on the recommended difficulty.

I used the 4-5 player events file.(Means more trade goods are spawned, only the first player, me in this case, need to have this one.)

    Nothing happened during my turn.

    Post The Netherlands 1500 AD

I hope this wonderful scenario plays as well as it promises to do!

The Dutch fleet puts to sea in search of new land and commerce

Did not expect there would be so many people wanting to play...
Too bad there are only 5 playable factions!

Other Europeans are playable but they have no trade units, so they will fall behind very quickly despite having more cities at the start.

    Anno Domini 1500

Cristopher Columbus returns to Seville from his 3rd Journey to the Americas, having claimed the islands of Cuba, Hispanolia, and Puerto Rico for the Crown of the United Kingdom of Spain.

Now let the process of converting these poor wretched natives to the true Catholic Faith begin!

    ---------

By the way, I do not see any house rules regarding diplomats. Does that mean that bribing units and cities is allowed? Can I bribe the AI controlled cities?

I would forbid bribing human controlled cities. I doubt AI cities will be heavily defended so I can't see any major issues with bribing them. I think units for both AI and Human Civs should be fare game for bribery. This was a time of mercenaries and treachery!

It is very different from normal scenarios, the biggest one being trade.
Through out the map there are these trading posts that will spawn "goods" units.
They can only be killed by "traders" who are missle units in game terms which can only be carried by specific merchant ships that have the "M-ship". Each time you kill one of these goods with a trader, you will get an event that gives you money and spawns a new trader in your capitol.

So you can't use the same strategy as in other games to advance technology.
You will have to keep your science rate as high as possible and try to earn money by killing these goods units to keep up.

I'm sorry I can't write it out in German, but hopefully you will be able to translate this alright.

    Nothing happened.
The hurricanes were set to go to some spot at game start.
When they get there I will set them to "go" to the caribbean, or something.
I do not intend to manage them otherwise.

    ...

I think it's okay to allow unit bribing.
Not very sure about city bribing however.
Most important thing is agreeing on a rule so we don't see this pop up later in the game!

I agree, which should agree to it now.

It seems that there is a consensus that unit bribing is OK, and that city bribing should perhaps not be allowed? Would that be the correct assumption?

If so I would add one more thing: No bribing of sea units. Otherwise you could bribe your opponent's Elite Caravel unit which would be too unfair.

And obviously no bribing hurricanes or the disease units, or any other special units hither to unmentioned.

The Kingdom of Portugal shall continue to explore and chart new lands with the same dedication that Henry the navigator showed.

I have to agree with not allowing the bribing of cities.
It would be too easy to start conquering lands with just one elite caravel and a diplomat.
