    A Soaring Spirit PBEM

    Athenian: Cobra (Formerly JPetroski)
    Corinthian: McMonkey
    Ionian: Jerec
    Spartan: Barthi
    Lydian: AI

    Etruscan: Ingvar



    I hope you guys will join me in a game. I think this one has a good mix of the elements that made the original Civ2 game fun, such as exploration, discovery as research as well as some of the features we have become used to from a modern multiplayer game. Well that's what I'm hoping anyway

    Download and info: A Soaring Spirit v1.0 Multiplayer

    House rules (Fairly simple when compared with 'Rise of the Dictators'!):

    No ship chaining
    No re-homing traders
    No black clicking
    No reloading
    No tech trading
    Trade embargoes must be observed
    No pillaging of stackable terrain
    No fortresses on mountain squares

    No Bribing Persian units. Other Lydian / Barbarian units can be bribed

    Cities can only be founded on Colony Sites by Colonists
    Only size 6 cities can build colonists
    Use the 'Colony Sites List' in the Read me folder to name cities
    New cities gained from goody huts must be disbanded asap
    City walls must always be in place. If destroyed use CivCity to rebuild
    Only Citizens are allowed to join a city to boost its size

    Did you weaken the Lydians at all since our last conversation?

    Yes, mainly by increasing the cost of the Lydian Hoplite and reducing its attacking power. I just started a test with the Ionians and I have already noticed a mistake with the events. I will fix this now and upload a new version. I knew there would be something I missed!

    While we are at it, I noticed quite a few Lydian units in Italy (Celtic one) and in Crete. Are they that sneaky?

    Fixed. v1.1 now available!

    I decided to use the Lydians to represent marauding barbarian units (Gauls, Iberians, Thracians etc...) rather than the Barbarians as the Lydian AI will move with these units and attack with them. On stackable terrain the Barbarian AI tends to just fortify its units and only attacks if you happen to have a unit in the next square. I doubt the Lydians will be able to capture any cities with these units unless the players are very careless with their garrisons

    Cool.

    What did you decide on the map in the end? Did you cover the whole map to heighten the exploring aspect of the game?

    I am trying to decide if I have the time to get involved with this one. If you have trouble filling all the slots, I'd be happy to fill one.

    My first choice would be the Ionians.

    We should wait until we have got all the players we need before starting. Feel free to have a play around with the game to familiarize yourself while you wait. We also need to discuss and agree on any house rules needed.

    Thanks for the offer. Hopefully it is just quiet because of the time of year and we will be able to find enough players. That said, it would be good to have you on board if you can squeeze it in! BTW the Historical Atlas is looking good. I was checking it yesterday for the work I'm doing on Aeterna Civitas III. I see it has expanded a fair bit.

    If you need players, I will take the Etruscans. Monkey, you might need to change one thing: the barbarian map is totally covered, even around their cities. They will all starve until they have only one pop left and will be destroyed when conquered.

    Ghost of Disco just pointed out the same thing at Apolyton. I had forgotten that lesson from Aeterna Civitas 2. It is easy enough to fix, though a little tedious. I will get that fixed this morning and post the updated file later today!

    BTW Welcome aboard Atze and Civi! Just a leader for the Ionians left to find.
